Man Skin Care

‘Male skin care’ would seem like an alien topic to some men. It would have been even more alien a few years ago.
However, more and more men are now realising the importance of man skin care and hence we see increasing advertisements and increasing male skin products available. Even though the male skin is very different from that of a female, ‘man skin care’ is very similar to the skin care for women.
As with women, men’s skin care also starts with cleansing. Water soluble cleansers should be used in preference to other products. Cleansing helps remove the dirt, grease and pollutants from the skin and helps in preventing pore clogging, reducing the chance of spots, rashes and other skin conditions. The inherent oily nature of male skin makes cleansing an important part of the male skin care procedure. Cleansing should be done at least once every day, even better if it is done twice a day. Using normal soap on the face is discouraged.
‘Man skin care’ revolves a lot around shaving. This means that the shaving foam, gel, or cream and after shave lotion you use when shaving are one of the most important man skin care products.
Serious male skin care requires a proper selection of shaving related equipment and products. One of the main considerations in choosing shaving products should be your skin type. Everyone’s skin is different and we all have a degree of oiliness that differs from person to person. Alcohol-based aftershaves should be avoided. Always use good quality razors with sharp blades and swivel-heads, since these products are known to reduce cuts are irritations. Besides these products, it is also necessary that you use them properly. Be gentle when using your razor. Do not scratch it against your skin and use a soft and smooth action. Remember that you are trying to remove hair and not the skin!
Male skin is generally thicker and oilier than a woman’s, owing to larger pores and more active sebaceous glands. However, due to regular shaving, the skin can get dehydrated quite easily. This is why moisturisers should form an integral part of male skin care. Moisturising gel or cream should be applied immediately after shaving, or you could use a shaving foam or gel that has an in-built moisturiser. When applying moisturisers, you should pat them gently over the face and massage gently using upward strokes.
Though a man’s skin is less susceptible to skin cancer caused by UV radiation, using a sunscreen is just as important in male skin care. There are many skin care products available that combine a moisturiser with sunscreen.
Another good option for ‘man skin care’ is to use products which have natural ingredients like aloe vera, sea salt and coconut. Naturally antiseptic oils such as lavender and tea tree can also provide good means of skin care.
Remember, it only takes a few minutes every day in order to give you a healthy looking skin for today and for future.
